SIP Trunking is a business grade voice solution that uses the internet instead of traditional fixed Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) lines to connect to your telephone carrier.
How it Works
SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) is a standard protocol for telephony over the internet. As opposed to traditional telephony, a SIP trunk allows a company to replace traditional fixed lines with PSTN connectivity via a SIP trunk using a Broadband Internet Service. This is usually done when the immediate replacement of the premised-based PBX phone system is not possible or desirable.
Benefits for your Business
- Enables the use of advanced technological features without sacrificing the capabilities of your existing system
- Ensures only the necessary amount of concurrent calls are made or received by your business, thus eliminating excess rental costs.

- Eliminates costs associated with the maintenance and support of PSTN services
- No more confusing bundles of wire used in traditional PSTN fixed lines
- Allows for optimum voice quality
- Reduce costs of long-distance conversations by converting all calls into local calls
- Gain built-in disaster recovery, fail-over and redundancy capabilities protecting you against failing equipment and providing business continuity
Quality of Service
Our SIP Trunking services are intended for use over dedicated business grade internet links only. For optimum voice quality PennyTel recommends approximately 96kbps uncontested bandwidth per concurrent call with an unlimited download package. For example, dedicated bandwidth of 384Kbps would facilitate 4 concurrent calls.
Once a call is handed to the PennyTel network via a SIP trunk it is terminated via the PSTN. PennyTel is interconnected with domestic and international Tier-1 carriers such as Verizon and AT&T for PSTN termination.
